This area is not an index for all inscriptions of a
given cemetery. Is is a repository of photographs of Haviland
tombstones (or immediate relations thereof), with the suspected
parents and spouses listed where possible, and the alleged birth
and death dates listed where possible. It is not uncommon for
the dates on tombstones to be wrong! Even my own 2nd great grandfather,
Roger Foster Haviland, has a date on his tombstone that does
not match his death certificate. So be aware that if you find
dates on a tombstone that don't match your records, keep both
and notate where they came from. The genealogical annotations
I provide are based on my own records, and 95% of my records
rely on the Haviland Genealogy reference by Josephine
C. Frost, as does just about everyone else's since 1914. I have,
however, corrected some of her material.
This project began at the Gerow Cemetery, up in Haviland Hollow
(a valley which stretches between Northeast Putnam County, NY
to Western Fairfield County, CT). I was there trying to find
my own direct ancestors, and took photographs of all the gravestones
with the Haviland surname that I could find. I matched these
up with individuals in my database and found that they were all
cousins. But they are somebody's direct ancestors, and
not everybody has access to these cemeteries like I do, so I
decided to put them up on the web for other descendants to view.
I then set out to find more graves, and I've started building
a library. I've found a few of my closest direct ancestors, but
I still have a long way to go, and I need your help!
If you have
photos of any tombstones, morgues, tombs, monuments, cemeteries
or maps to cemeteries where Havilands
or descendants of Thomas, Sieur De Haveilland are buried (anywhere
in the US), or images of rubbings for said graves, send
them to me and I'll upload them here.
Please see my MOST WANTED LIST of graves. Maybe you can help
me find them!
