Pineview Cemetery, Queensbury

Pineview is a big, beautiful modern cemetery with a duck pond in the middle of it. So far it's the best looking cemetery that I've visited, and it's maintained extremely well. It can be found on Quaker Road in Queensbury, not far from the intersection of Route 9, across from the Queensbury Plaza. Queensbury is a township that wraps around the North side of Glens Falls.

My second great grandparents, Roger Foster Haviland and Mary Jane Lane, have a huge lot-stone here. The two of them are buried in that lot, along with both of their children, Florence Louise Haviland and my great grandfather Foster Lane Haviland, as well as my great grandmother May Belle Ford. Foster and May Belle did not have stone markers for themselves when I visited the cemetery in April, 2003. When I returned home I mentioned this in a letter to my grand-uncle John Haviland (the only survivor of Foster's 3 sons, who lived in Illinois) and told him of the situation. In September, 2003 he commissioned me to add his parents' names to the back side of the lot stone, under his aunt Florence. Grand-uncle John then passed away eight months later, on 22 May 2004, and is buried in Illinois.

There are 3 unused graves in that lot, and I've been considering having my third great grandparents, Solomon Haviland and Lydia Otis, reinterred here from the Friends Cemetery at Ridge & Cronin a couple miles away. At some future date I may have this done, but I cannot afford it just now. My grandparents, Charles Valentine Haviland and Catherine Allen were cremated, however I may have a memorial erected here with their names someday.

In September, 2003, I had my great grandparents added. They are "sunken" letters, which do not match the "raised" lettering of Florence's name, however raised lettering is far more expensive (especially for a good Freemason symbol) and a bit harder to read.

John Grant Haviland was my 2nd Cousin, 5 Times Removed. His children were John Morrison, Esther, Elizabeth H., Maria, Jane, Mary Ann, and Betsy Emaline. Some of these children are buried here with their spouse. Elizabeth H. Haviland had married Hon. Harris Foster Otis, the Mayor of Topeka, KS -- my 3rd Great Grand-Uncle via another branch (son of Dr. David Harris Otis and Sarah Rogers). They are not buried here, however.
