The Haviland Y-DNA Surname Project Subject Index

Introduction - Enrollment - Project Results - Findings - Subjects - DNA Genealogy Tutorial - DNA Glossary - Explanation of Markers - Explanation of Y-DNA Testing

The left column represents each participant's subject number, which corresponds to the results chart. The second column represents the customer code for each participant as provided by DNA Heritage. The third column is the earliest traceable ancestor in that participant's family tree. (Those in RED are assumed by DNA evidence only.) Those participants with the same ancestor are believed to be related. If they have identical haplotypes in the 43-marker test, this is proved to be true, though it does not prove that the common ancestor written here is necessarily the correct one. If two participants with different ancestors have identical haplotypes, they share an unknown common ancestor. If two participants with the same earliest traceable ancestor have many different markers in their haplotypes, then they do not share a common paternal ancestor within the last couple thousand years, and it can therefore be assumed that one of them did not descend from the ancestor indicated.
